Down the coast to Port Hardy

After a few hours sleep I decided to depart and get away from this sport fishing disneyland.
I motored in an absolutely calm sea. Two anchorages later and I was in Bella Bella where I refueled and got groceries.

Unfortuately I ran into three days of fog as I went down Fitz Hugh Sound and went around Cape Caution. I spent many hours staring into the fog and poring over moving targets on my radar. Eventually I was around Cape Caution  and found a fantastic anchorage on the other side. From there it was an easy crossing to Port Hardy.

Petersburg

Here we are in picturesque Petersburg. It is a fairly quiet fishing village on the banks of Wrangell Narrows. Most of the traffic up to Southeast Alaska squeezes through this narrow passageway. Out trip here was remarkably uneventful. While we were in Auke Bay in Juneau I discovered my passport was missing. I was pretty sure I left it in my truck in Skagway. Thankfully my friend Ken was home and he skipped down to the truck retrieved it and couriered it by air to Juneau within hours. I must say the gods were looking after me. It is about a sixty stretch down Stephen's Passage. Most of it was flat calm. We were able to sail for about an hour but that was it. As we approached the Five Finger Light House and the Junction with Frederick Sound we started to see whales galore, humpback whales. We also saw thousands of marbled Murrelets. Back in Canada

 First some pictures from Ketchikan. A boat fantasy Ferries tied up to dock in Ketchikan due to strike. After leaving Ketchikan we motored towards our last anchorage before crossing the Dixon Entrance in to Canada. About halfway there the heat alarm started blaring on out motor. It was a very unwelcome sound. We shut off the motor started sailing and started troubleshooting. We did not figure out the problem until we disassembled the water pump and discovered the impeller was damaged. This was a great relief as we knew what the problem was and promptly replaced the part. The next day we had an uneventful crossing of Dixon Entrance. About half way across a Peregrine Falcon briefly tried to land on our mast. As we were entering Brundige Inlet on Dundas Island we saw these two beautiful wolves walking along shore.
