Into the United States and our Protracted Stay in Port Townsend
Once we left Saturna Island we headed across Haro Strait to the U.S.of A, the San Juan Islands and the port of Friday Harbour. Downtown Friday Harbour We were met at the dock by the customs officer who was very sceptical when he heard we were Canadians and had a US registered boat. A call to his supervisor and a call to Skagway cleared things and we were welcomed with open arms. We spent two days here then embarked for Fisherman's cove which is all of five miles away. It is a perfect anchorage with lots of room and the perfect depth. We enjoyed the novel experience of picking delicious apples off a tree in a public park in the middle of town. Fisherman's Bay Another short jaunt brought us through San Juan Channel and out to Mackaye Harbour perched on the shore of Juan de Fuca Strait.
